But step out into the sprawling industrial areas, the famous vineyard belts, and the fast-growing outskirts, and you're mostly on hard borewell water drawn from Deccan basalt. Why it depends on your area

Central Nashik is served by municipal supply from reservoirs like Gangapur, which is treated and relatively soft. The problem is reach: as Nashik grew as an industrial and residential hub, many areas beyond the piped-supply core came to depend on borewells. That groundwater, filtered through basalt, is naturally hard — carrying calcium and magnesium that form scale.

So two Nashik homes can have very different water depending on whether they're on dam-fed municipal supply or borewell.
